Shiga's Great Outdoors

Welcome to Shiga Prefecture. A land abundant in nature and rolling hills, numerous mountains and tranquil rivers. At its center lies one of the world's oldest lakes and the largest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa – a historical link to the people that have called Shiga home for centuries.

This place is now your home and if you’re an avid outdoorsy person, or a curious fellow in need of adventure, Shiga has it all, from the extraordinary beauty atop its tallest mountain, Mt. Ibuki, to the chance to circle the entirety of Lake Biwa by bike.

We're lucky in Shiga to have so many fantastic outdoor activities right on our doorstep. However you don’t need to spend exuberantly to be able to enjoy the nature and beauty Shiga has on offer. With many parks, outdoor areas, lakefront beaches and more, Shiga offers many places for general outdoor walks, hikes, and outdoor sports of any nature. Like volleyball? Go play beach Volleyball. Like football? Go kick a ball around the park. Shiga’s outdoors are plentiful and its all open for you to enjoy!
